A Change is Gonna Come

I woke up humming this today
I wonder if it's prophetic?

I mean...
really?
just how long
do ya think I can remain
this sad?

life does go on
doesnt' it?

I was born by the river
In a little tent
Oh, and just like
The river I've been runnin' ever since

It's been a long, long time coming
But I know
Change is gonna come
Woah yes it will

It's been too hard living
But I'm afraid to die
Cause I don't know what's up there
Beyond the skies

It's been a long, long time coming
But I know
Change is gonna come
Woah yes it will

I go to the movies
And I go downtown
Somebody keeps telling me don't
Hang around

It's been a long, long time coming
But I know
Change is gonna come
Woah yes it will

Then I go to my brother
I say 'Brother, help me please'
But he winds up
Knocking me
Back down on my knees begging please, yeah

There're've been times I've thought
I couldn't let us be alone
Now I think I'm able to carry on

It's been a long, long time
Long time coming but I know, yeah
Change is gonna come
Oh, yes it will

This is one of my all-time favorite songs, and by far my favorite Sam Cooke song. ("Twistin' the Night Away" is second... LOL) Did you know that Cooke wrote this song as a sort of response to Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind"? I believe that Cooke would have gone on to become at least a musical voice (if not an activist voice) in the larger Civil Rights movement had he not died when he did.
